Porto Airport

Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport (IATA: OPO) is located approximately 11 km (7 miles) from the city center.

Transport options:

  • Metro (Line E - Purple Line): Connects the airport to the city center in ~30 minutes. Trains run every 20–30 minutes. Ticket costs about €2.75.
  • Bus: Several urban and intercity buses serve the airport.
  • Taxi: A taxi to downtown Porto costs around €20–25, depending on time and traffic.
  • Rideshare: Services like Uber and Bolt are also available.

Public Transport in Porto

Porto’s public transport system is efficient and run by STCP (buses) and Metro do Porto.

We have a limited number of free public transport passes for Porto. The pass can be used from 5–8 September 2026 on the Metro, buses, and the funicular. Passes will be given out on a first come, first served basis. Ask for yours at the registration.

Metro

  • Covers six lines (A to F), operating from around 6 am to 1 am.
  • Tickets depend on zones traveled; a typical single journey within central zones costs €1.60–€2.00.

Buses

  • STCP buses cover the city and suburbs, with day and night services.
  • You can use the same transport card (“Andante”) for metro, buses, and trains.

Trams

  • Historic trams operate on a few scenic routes. A single ride costs €3.50.

Funicular dos Guindais

  • Connects Ribeira (riverfront) with Batalha. Great views and a unique experience.

Tickets for Public Transport

  • Andante cards are used across metro, bus, and some trains.
  • Single trips, 24-hour passes, and prepaid options available.
  • A 24-hour Andante Tour pass costs about €7 and offers unlimited travel in central zones.
  • Tickets can be bought at machines, stations, or authorized shops.

Taxis

  • Available 24/7. Most are beige or black with green roofs.
  • Fares are metered and start at about €3.50. Tips are not required but rounding up is common.
  • Be sure the driver turns on the meter. Apps like Bolt, Uber, or Free Now are reliable alternatives.
